As a writer for InvolveMatrix, I’ve had the privilege of exploring the ever-evolving world of smart home technology. Over the years, I’ve tested countless devices, separating the truly useful from the merely flashy. In 2025, the market is brimming with innovations that can make your home smarter, safer, and more convenient. Today, I’m excited to share 10 of the coolest smart home devices that are not just impressive but also worth considering for your setup.
Sofa Baton Universal Remote

The smart universal remote from Sofabaton controls everything in my home theater room: the amplifier, Xbox, Apple TV, and projector. Not only that, but it’s super easy to use. Plus, I can trigger those on-off buttons in Home Assistant. Now, this remote isn’t perfect, but it does basically everything I need it to do.
Plant Sensor
I have accidentally killed plants in my home, you can tag me a serial killer at this point but this new plant sensor from Apollo will hopefully change that it’s the PLT one and it’s packed, full of sensors humidity temperature light UV, and most importantly soil moisture built all into this little device it’s will update instantly when watering plants you can even change the RGB light on it with automation if the plant needs to be watered it connects directly to the home assistant using ESP home and I love what Apollo is doing they’re making a lot of unique inexpensive sensors for home assistants they’re amazing you can go check them.
Sonos Bathroom speaker

Do you know where the best place to have a speaker in your house is? Your bathroom! Sing along in the shower or blast music while you’re getting ready. I used to use a HomePod Mini in my bathroom, but one day, it just died. So, I decided to buy the Sonos Era 100, which is much better than the HomePod Mini.
It’s way louder, sounds amazing, and works with iOS and Android. Not only that, but I can use the built-in microphone for Sonos voice commands to change the song or adjust the volume while in the shower. Just say, “Next song,” and it doesn’t argue back or try to sell me something. It’s the complete package.
Eye Detekt Fire Detection

Smoke detectors in the house are great but you know what’s faster detecting a fire right when it starts this hot new addition to supplement your smart home is called eye detect it has special sensors that can recognize Flames. You can set it up in your garage or studio if you have one and it’s perfect because there should never be a fire in either of these places this sensor spots fire from around 20 ft away within 2 seconds.
It uses Wi-Fi, and the battery life is supposed to last over a year i don’t think it works with Home Assistant yet, but it will keep you safer, and that’s great. There might be a time when it becomes compatible, but for now, it does its job well.
Hue Dimmer Switch

When you’re adding smart light bulbs to your home, your family might say, “I just want a switch to turn the light on and off!” Sometimes, families can be so demanding.
But here’s the thing: even if you didn’t buy a Philips Hue light bulb, you can still use a Hue wireless light switch. Surprised? You shouldn’t be! The Hue switch uses Zigbee, so if you have Home Assistant and a Zigbee USB stick, you can use it to control any smart lights—not just Hue.
The switch is wireless and comes with a magnetic mounting plate, so you can install it anywhere. Now, your family can be happy again while you enjoy your smart home setup.
Aqara U300

I have affordable fingerprint door locks throughout my home, and they work great. While they don’t connect to my smart home, this one is different—it’s the new Aqara U300. It’s a more premium option, and it still keeps the rascals out of your office or private space.
The lock is high-quality, with a fingerprint sensor, a hidden keyhole, and a keypad that anyone can use. It’s a little expensive since it’s built for outdoor use, but it works with Matter, so I’ve connected it to Home Assistant. Now I can run automations to lock or unlock the door without getting up.
The only problem with this lock is that if I want it to stay unlocked, I have to physically press a button on the back. I wish Aqara would change this. Still, if you’re looking for a nice fingerprint lock with a lever, this is a solid pick.
Outdoor Novostella lights
Another smart home product that is worth buying is the outdoor Wi-Fi Lights by Nova Stella that work with most smart home platforms you can mount them near your roof and they’re very bright up to 1,700 lumens they also have good warm and cool white colors and RGB for the kids.
You can also set up cool automation when the camera detects a person and the sun is down the lights turn on so, no false alerts from birds or anything and it’s convenient since you never have to turn the lights on and off and it’s a good security automation.
Aranet 4 Air Quality Monitor
When we perceive bad air we only think about the outside but inside it can be bad too especially when CO2 levels are high it can make my brain feel foggy and I can think slower that’s why I love this air quality sensor and recommend it. The Aranet 4 Home is great at detecting CO2 levels the display is easy to read and it has a long lifespan the battery life lasts up to 4 years it also integrates with home assistant using Bluetooth but what if you’re at a Bluetooth that doesn’t range well.
ESP32
That’s where the ESP32 comes in it can be used for Bluetooth proxies extend the Bluetooth range in your house. They’re very small and inexpensive—some are only $5 each, which is insane. I use them for all sorts of things, like room presence detection. Since it can detect Bluetooth on my phone or my SmartWatch and tell my smart home which room I’m in, this opens the door to all sorts of automation based on who’s in the room. I love these, and I think they’re worth it for how inexpensive they are.
Conclusion
